We’ve recently been noticing that even very deep, unimportant pages on authority websites (think high DmR + high DmT) can rank spectacularly well for all but the most competitive terms by leveraging a large number of low quality directory, dofollow comment and press release links. Even many of the horrible-sounding $50 for 50 links offers seen on forums like Digitalpoint can provide value if pointed to pages on high quality sites. It’s really the anchor text and the diversity of root domain linking that does the trick.
This is particularly valuable knowledge for reputation management campaigns, but can also be effective if you control or do SEO for authority sites. Just be aware that the value probably won’t last forever, as Google is constantly evolving on this front.
